Dinner Party at Sentosa Regency Hotel

Superior Five Combination Platter
Right after our bargain shopping at the bottom of Kek Lok Si Temple  and lunching out in New World Park in Penang, our group headed to Alor Setar and checked in at Leverage Business Hotel. We were given barely 30 minutes to prepare and put on a good dress for the much anticipated back to back cocktail session and dinner party at the Sentosa Regency Hotel.

Lunch Out at New World Park Hawker Center, Penang

After touring the temples and beach of Penang, our tour bus dropped us off at the Hawker Center of New World Park which is basically a food court full of Malaysia's local cuisines. I failed to take note of the name of some of the dishes but one food became memorable - my first bite on a century egg. That's the black piece in the Penang Lobak plate.

Dining at Genting Highlands: The Eatery

Right after our Batu Cave experience, we headed straight to one of the highest theme parks around the world, the beautiful Genting Highlands. The place offered a very cool temperature and a number of high end Asian  restaurants. Someone from the group who've been to Genting recommended The Eatery which she said offers both quality and affordability. From our room in First World Hotel, we went back to the drop off area of Genting Skyway (cable car) where the said restaurant is located to have our dinner.

Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo Sdn Bhd

Yong Tau Foo
After a quick stop at Petronas Twin Towers, we took our lunch at Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo Sdn Bhd (whew, that was long!) to taste Ampang's famous dish, Yong Tau Foo.

Yong Tau Foo is a plateful of vegetables such as ampalaya, okra, red chili, tofu, fish balls etc. We started off with a soya milk drink. In my 5 days in Malaysia, I wasn't able to drink any brand of soda, geez no wonder they're healthier. After a long battle with my chopsticks (I hate to admit, I'm really poor at using chopsticks!), I finally succumb and asked for a spoon and fork. We were presented with a number of plates with the fried dumplings as my favorite especially when dipped into their homemade sauce.

A Cantonese Dinner at Sek Yuen Restoran

Continuing on my Malaysia food series, we had our very first dinner at Sek Yuen Restoran for an authentic Cantonese cuisine. Located at Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, this restaurant which has two buildings (air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned) that stands side by side feels like home. It looks old, yes,  but it's something a tourist like me did appreciate. Later on, I realized we had dined into what seems to share a piece of history, the oldest Chinese restaurant which started back in the 50's!

Seafood Dinner at Restoran Makanan Laut Cia Xiang

Claypot Crab Rice
During our first night in Penang, Malaysia, we were treated to an irresistible seafood buffet for dinner at the Restoran Makanan Laut Cia Xiang. The place had a simple outdoor vibe. Earlier that day, all the Gano iTouch staff from the Philippines as well as the group of Ms. Sin Yee from Malaysia has consistently been telling us to not eat much for we will sure be stuffed with so much food on our dinner. We needed to provide some more extra space in our tummy. Penang, after all is most famous for its buffet serving seafood. Indeed, later that night, Penang did not disappoint.

Malaysia's Nasi Lemak

The Eatery's Nasi Lemak
My recent trip to Malaysia was memorable. I, together with other Gano iTouch delegates were pampered with all sorts of Malaysian food with a fusion of Chinese, Thai and Indian flavors. We're mostly served in buffet style so when we were given a chance to eat on our own for our dinner at Genting Highlands, someone recommended a restaurant that serves affordable and delicious dishes, The Eatery. Nasi Lemak has been on my mind and must-taste list even before the Malaysia trip. So when I realized they're serving it, I eagerly ordered one.

Nasi Lemak, based on my research is a national dish in Malaysia and is usually serve during breakfast. The one I had was served much like a platter with hard boiled eggs, cucumber, rice (which my aunt calls the NFA rice), peanuts, sweet pickled vegetable known as acar, chicken topped with hot spicy sauce they call sambal. Immediately after the first bite, I was taken aback by its spicy-ness. The sambal was a killer! I never expected the dish to be that spicy. I am probably over reacting, but the chili for me was just overwhelming. The chicken was tasty though. I may not try eating one again, but I'm glad I had a taste of Malaysia's own Nasi Lemak.
