Bird's Nest Soup from Palawan |
When in Palawan, sip a bowl of Bird's nest soup from Balinsasayaw Chicken Grill and Restaurant. Tagged as the world's most expensive soup and "caviar of the east", this no ordinary bird's nest soup comes from the saliva of male swiflets locally known as balinsasayaw. The soup is believed to have numerous health benefits from boosting the immune system to slowing down the aging process.

During our first night in Puerto Princesa Palawan, we ordered a bowl of bird's nest soup, squid sisig and native chicken adobo. I have been itching to try the said soup regardless of the price simply because I really wanted to know how it tastes like. The bowl looks ordinary to me, reminds me of a simple crab and corn soup. We, however, love the aroma.
I do respect the kind of effort the natives of Palawan do just to get a nest, it's just that I don't find the soup per se as a real stand out. It tastes good, yes, but not really that outstanding as I expect it to be. But hey, since you're in Palawan, it's still worth to try this rare delicacy.
