Going NUTS about Health!

Dad recently arrived from Qatar and he bought us these packs of different varieties of nuts such as pistachios, cashews, chick peas, hazel-nuts, peanuts, pumpkin seeds and almonds. These healthy smart snacks are better alternatives to junk foods, also the perfect companion during "drinking session" and a traditional must haves during long road trips.

Wonderful Pistachios from California are perfectly seasoned for a delicious flavor with a satisfying crunch. Here's a fun fact I learned about pistachio: In Iran, pistachios are known as the “smiling nut.” In China, it's called the “happy nut.” Pistachios are also known as the "green almond.” With regards to fiber content, you would have to eat three plums to get the same amount of fiber found in one serving of pistachios.

Most of the studies conducted on nuts, tested a wide variety. Walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pecans, hazelnuts, pistachios and macadamia nuts all have shown benefits in altering the blood in ways beneficial to cardiovascular health. Walnut consumption, due to their high fatty acid content, seems to be especially beneficial. Undergoing a rigorous process of selection and packaging, Castania’s nuts have been duly recognized in the Europe and Middle East market for their packaging standards.

My favorite of all kinds of nuts - cashew or kasoy as we call in the Philippines. Although I find the package a little bland compared to those I've previously tasted. Cashews are lower in fat than most nuts, and 65 percent of this fat is unsaturated fatty acids. Of this, 90 percent is oleic acid, the heart-healthy fat found in olive oil.Plus, cashews are rich in copper, magnesium, zinc, iron and biotin.
