Palawan: Skylight Hotel's D'Veranda

Skylight Hotel's Restaurant - D'Veranda

Now unlike KaLui, Balinsasayaw and Badjao Seafront Restaurant, I didn't plan on dining here at Skylight Hotel's D'Veranda. The restaurant's just wasn't on the usual tourist-foodie track based on my web research. But our tricycle driver dropped us here and said it's a good restaurant. We went inside and the first thing I noticed was the open kitchen where the cook whips up the ordered fresh fish - interesting.

Lunch Out: Palawan's Badjao Seafront Restaurant

Palawan: Badjao Seafront Restaurant

Just like KaLui, Badjao Seafront Restaurant is included in my must-see places in Palawan. I have been reading good reviews about how interesting the place is and I wanted to check it out myself. So for our last day in Palawan, I recommended that we eat here. After hearing that the setting provides great view and great food, they agreed and after hours of shopping for pearls, we drive our way to a more off beaten track in Abueg Road.

Palawan: The Tamilok Challenge

bowl of Tamilok at Sabang Beach
It's Long, it's Slimy and it's eaten Fresh!

In a forest city where mangroves abound, one delicacy stands out, the TAMILOK. Locals harvest these woodworm like mollusks on dead mangroves and serves them on plate, ideally as pulutan. Some people get out of their comfort zones just to try something new. Tourists therefore see this absurd delicacy as a challenge and wouldn't leave Palawan without taking a bite. Okay, tamilok may not sound to be the most appetizing treat in the world, heck it's not even visually appealing. But many people actually love the taste of this aphrodisiac, which they say is similar to oyster.

Balinsasayaw's Bird's Nest Soup

Bird's Nest Soup from Palawan
When in Palawan, sip a bowl of Bird's nest soup from Balinsasayaw Chicken Grill and Restaurant. Tagged as the world's most expensive soup and "caviar of the east", this no ordinary bird's nest soup comes from the saliva of male swiflets locally known as balinsasayaw. The soup is believed to have numerous health benefits from boosting the immune system to slowing down the aging process.

KaLui Restaurant in Palawan may probably be the most famous food choice of any local and tourist alike. Those who've tasted and dined in this humble "home-feel" abode with interesting "Filipino inspired" interior which requires every customer to leave off their shoes and dine barefoot would surely attest to the restaurant's  unique dining experience, a must try for for any Palawan adventurers.
